About this workshop

This online workshop features University of Minnesota experts addressing some of the most common mental health concerns they hear about from parents of University students. The audio, video, and podcasts of the workshop are posted below. We encourage parents to view the materials presented here as introductory, and to consult with the resources found here at the University of Minnesota or in their own communities for more in-depth information or to address any specific concerns.

This workshop is made possible in part by a grant from The Jed Foundation.

How to choose and use an online workshop

  • Select video presentations if you have a broadband connection.

  • Select audio presentations if you use a dial-up or modem connection.

  • Select the podcast presentation if you have a broadband connection and want to download the entire workshop (all 20 presentations). Podcasts are audio only.

Audio and Video—Choose between QuickTime and Flash for the video presentations. If you don't have Flash loaded on your computer, a message prompting you to download it will appear when you choose a Flash video. If you experience any difficulties with QuickTime, be sure you have the most current version of QuickTime, a free software program for Windows and Mac available through Apple, on your computer.

The audio and video presentations are best viewed using Netscape 7.0 or higher, Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, or Firefox. Internet Explorer may take a little longer to display QuickTime depending on your computer's system.

Podcast—A podcast downloads Mp3 audio recordings to your computer. These recordings can be played on your computer using any podcast software, such as iTunes, or placed on your iPod or other portable music player to listen to anytime.

To listen to the mental health podcast, you'll need podcast software. The instructions above give details for copying the link you'll need to download the podcast to your podcast software. If you don't have podcast software, you can download a free copy of iTunes, available for PC or Mac, from www.itunes.com.
