Presenter Biographies

Jerry Rinehart is the vice provost for Student Affairs at the University of Minnesota. In this capacity he is responsible for student development, student services, and campus life, including helping to ensure integration of academic programs with student services and cocurricular activities that support student learning, retention, and graduation. Jerry has more than 25 years of senior administrative experience.

Edward P. Ehlinger, M.D., M.S.P.H., is the director and chief health officer of Boynton Health Service. Dr. Ehlinger directed the first comprehensive assessment of the health of University of Minnesota students. His reports on tobacco and alcohol use, credit card debt, and mental health issues among college students have led to changes in programs and policies at the local, state, and national level. Dr. Ehlinger is board certified in internal medicine and pediatrics and has a master of science degree in public health.

Harriett Copher Haynes is director of University Counseling and Consulting Services at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. A senior psychologist and adjunct assistant professor in counseling psychology, Dr. Haynes has a Ph.D. (counseling psychology), and M.S. (public health) from the University of Minnesota and a B.S. (nursing) from the University of Missouri. In addition to her role as a manager, she teaches, counsels, supervises, and trains graduate students and provides organizational development consultation (assessment, teambuilding conflict management, mediation, coaching and training) to University and community agencies.

Robert Seybold earned a doctorate in educational psychology with an emphasis in college counseling at the University of Minnesota in 1980. He has been a senior staff member with University Counseling and Consulting Services (UCCS) since the completion of his doctorate. Bob's professional background spans every student services delivery program of UCCS, and he has been in charge of the St. Paul campus office of UCCS since 1987.

Barbara Blacklock holds a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling and is licensed by the state of Minnesota as an independent social worker (LISW). She has worked in Disability Services at the University of Minnesota for the past 25 years and has presented locally, nationally, and internationally on disability issues. She is currently the Disability Services liaison to the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center programs.

Scott Slattery completed his Ph.D. in counseling psychology in 1999 and holds a staff psychologist position at the University Counseling and Consulting Services (UCCS) office on campus. In addition to interests in working with students on transition and loss issues, Dr. Slattery also serves as the program director for the Student Academic Success Services office (SASS) and maintains a small private practice in St. Paul.

Lisa Schulte, assistant director of residential life, joined the Housing and Residential Life department at the University of Minnesota in January 1999. She has worked in higher education as a full-time employee for the past 24 years.

Erik Dussault is a senior student activities adviser at the University of Minnesota. He advises student organizations in such areas as registration, program planning, retreat planning, and fund-raising. He advises the Commuter Connection, a student group that works to bring commuter students into the campus community, by assisting them in finding needed resources and creating a supportive environment for them to become involved. He is currently working towards an M.Ed. in youth development leadership at the University of Minnesota.

Sarra Beckham-Chasnoff is a staff psychologist at University Counseling and Consulting Services. She has a doctorate in counseling psychology and a masters in marriage and family therapy, both from Indiana State University.

Linda Muldoon, Ph.D., L.P., is a senior psychologist and director of the Group Program at University Counseling and Consulting Services, where she has worked for the past ten years. Prior to her position at the University, she had a long career in community mental health. Dr. Muldoon received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1972.

Gary Christenson, M.D., is director of the Mental Health Clinic at Boynton Health Service and clinical associate professor of psychiatry in the Medical School. He is a member of the Provost Committee on Mental Health and previously served on the Minnesota State Advisory Council on Mental Health as the representative for the field of psychiatry.

Greg Hestness earned an M.A. in management from St. Mary's University and holds a B.A. in sociology from the University of Minnesota. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the Senior Management Institute for Police, and the Executive Program of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators. He retired after a 28-year career as deputy police chief for the Minneapolis Police Department, where he founded their Crisis Intervention Team program. For the last four years he has been the assistant vice president for public safety and police chief at the University of Minnesota.

Salina Renninger earned a doctorate in educational psychology—counseling and student personnel psychology at the University of Minnesota in 1998. She is currently a senior psychologist and the director of training at University Counseling and Consulting Services (UCCS). Salina's background includes work in both university settings and community mental health settings. She is also adjunct faculty in the Counseling and Student Personnel Psychology Program.

Amelious Whyte is the chief of staff in the Office for Student Affairs.  He has worked at the University in various capacities since 1991, including working in the Office for Student Affairs central office, Boynton Health Service, Student Judicial Affairs, the Aurora Center for Advocacy and Training, and the Office of the Board of Regents. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California in public administration and his master's degree from the University of Minnesota in public affairs. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in higher education at the University.

Jamie C. Tiedemann was hired in 1991 to develop an on-campus program to address sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking at the University of Minnesota. The Aurora Center at the University of Minnesota is a crisis and intervention program for students, staff, and visitors. As the director of the Aurora Center she is the point person for working with parents who may have questions, concerns or need support as a result of their son's or daughter's sexual assault, relationship violence, or stalking. She has a master's degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling from Mankato State University.

Mark Rotenberg is the general counsel at the University of Minnesota, and also serves as adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Law School. He holds J.D., M.Phil. and M.A. degrees from Columbia University. As chief legal officer of the University, Mark is responsible for advising the University’s Board of Regents, administration, and faculty on a wide range of legal issues including student rights, educational privacy, and parental access to University information about students.

Jennifer Beldon, M.D., is a staff psychiatrist at Boynton Mental Health Service, and she completed medical school and psychiatry residency at the University of Minnesota. She served as chief psychiatry resident in her last year of training at the University, and her interests include the treatment of anxiety and depression in college and professional students, as well as the treatment of eating disorders.

Steven A. Hermann, M.D., has been a staff psychiatrist at Boynton Health Service since 2003. He completed medical school and psychiatric residency at the University of Minnesota. He worked extensively in consultation and in-patient psychiatry prior to joining Boynton. Dr. Hermann is an assistant clinical professor in the Medical School and supervises a fourth-year psychiatry resident in the Boynton Mental Health clinic.

Carrie Kelley is an administrative fellow in the Disability Services office at the University of Minnesota. She works closely with Lisa King, a disability dpecialist, to provide services to college students with Asperger Syndrome. Carrie is also a graduate student in the speech-language pathology master of arts program.
