Learning abroad…for parents
Parents
sometimes wonder if college is wasted on the young. They
wish that mothers and fathers could have at least some
of the opportunities college offers—especially
study abroad. To grant that wish, we are planning a "mini-study
abroad"; for parents for spring 2010. The University
Parent Program is working with the University's
Learning Abroad Center to provide a 12-day trip to Paris
and Montpelier, France, that recreates in short form
a learning abroad tour for parents, providing a taste
of what students experience when they study abroad.
The program, scheduled from March 31 to April 11, features:
- Lectures on the culture, history, arts, economy, and environment of southern France
- A cooking class
- Visits to museums, shops, and recreational sites
- Basic French language instruction
- Both structured and free time in Paris and Montpelier
A tentative itinerary is online. The cost
of the trip will be finalized in December and will depend
on currency exchange rates and the cost of airfare, but
it will range between $3,000 and $3,500. The rate includes
airfare from Minneapolis, transportation in France, lodging,
educational programming, international health insurance,
and two meals a day. Members of the Minnesota Parents
Association receive a $25 discount. |
