Survey finds U parents satisfied
From
the Fall 2004 Parent Newsletter
A
survey of parents of University of Minnesota students, conducted
in spring 2004, revealed that parents are highly satisfied with the
communications, programs, and services provided to them. Parents
also indicated that they feel a strong connection to the Universitys
campus community.
The survey indicated that 95.9 percent were satisfied or very satisfied with
the Universitys communications for parents, and 96.6 percent said they
were satisfied or very satisfied with programs and services provided to parents.
When asked their level of agreement with the statement, I feel that the
University of Minnesota includes parents in the University community, 94.4
percent said they agree or strongly agree. These numbers reflect a continuation
of improved satisfaction and connectedness over the history of the University
Parent Program, based on surveys conducted in 1995, 1997, and 2002.
Parents who attended Parent Orientation and Parents Weekend were much more likely
to be satisfied or very satisfied with the University and to feel more connected
to the campus community. Similarly, those who were aware of and made use of the
Parent e-mail listserv (biweekly e-mail messages from the University Parent Program)
were among the most satisfied group.
The survey also showed that parents concerns change during their students academic
careers. In the freshman year, parents concerns focus on health and safety,
finances, academics, and personal relationships. By the time students reach their
senior year, half of all parents say that career planning is their No. 1 concern
for their student.
