As we see an increasing number of parents who would be considered late Baby Boomers or early GenXers, we are wondering how today's parents view behaviors that may have previously been considered rebellious. Do you, the parent, have

What would you consider an act of rebellion from your student? Parents said that an act of rebellion would be:

• Piercings/tattoos: 36, or 11.5% of respondents. Many qualified that as “more piercings or tattoos than he/she already has;” "unhealthy tattoos or piercings;" or "piercings or tattoos that would be visible/interfere with a job search;" "for males, piercings other than ears".
• Dramatic appearance change/unusual hair color: 4 (1.3%)
• Alcohol or drugs: 15 (4.8%)
• Cigarettes: 4 (1.3%)
• Lack of communication with family, backtalk, rudeness with family 15 (4.8%)
• Defiance of parental authority: 4 (1.3%)
• Dropping out of school/doing poorly in school: 19 (6.1%)
• Other behaviors noted as rebellious were premarital sex, radical politics, atheism, financial irresponsibility, illegal activities
