bullet Public Safety Alert

Message sent to students, faculty, and staff on Sunday, May 11, 2008.

On Sunday, May 11 at approximately 3:15 a.m. a University of Minnesota student reported being the victim of criminal sexual conduct/molesting in Middlebrook Hall.

The victim was asleep in her room but woke when she felt someone touching her. When the victim responded, she saw the suspect flee the room. The door to the room was unlocked.

The victim is not able to provide a description of the suspect. The victim's roommate was also present but did not wake up during the incident.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the University of Minnesota Police Department at 612-624-COPS (2677).

Please remember the following:

  • Protect yourself and your belongings. Always lock your door.

  • Call 911 immediately if you are the victim or witness to a crime, or if you see suspicious activity or people.

  • Always be aware of your surroundings.

  • Walk in well lit areas and don't walk alone. If you can't find someone to walk with, call the Campus Escort service at 612-624-WALK for a free security escort.

  • Document information about the suspect for police (i.e. clothing descriptions, facial features, piercings or tattoos, speech, etc.)

  • Carry minimal amounts of valuables

  • Keep written records of valuables, including model and serial numbers, in a safe place.

  • When threatened with a weapon, it's best not to resist. Your personal safety is more important than a lost wallet or cell phone.
